Dunecht,   28th March 2010,   17km Pl/Tr

 

Replacement for Greens of Afforsk.

New venue at Dunecht courtesy of Dunecht Estates.  The route will consist of mainly estate roads and tracks, some heather moorland and a couple of lovely grass tracks.

 

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE    Landranger 38, Grid NJ 760073

Dunecht village is on the crossroads of the A944 and B977. 

All vehicles should enter Dunecht Estate through the main gates at the east end of Dunecht village and exit after the ride to the south.  Estate roads will not accommodate 2-way traffic.  Watch out for golfers and also horses if arriving after 10 a.m..

After entering the main gates, turn R between North Lodges and continue south past Housedale, Dairy Farm and the golf course and on to Venue field.

 

PLEASE TIDY UP & REMOVE ALL MUCK, STRAW, ETC.

 

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS

 

1) NO CREWS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE.

2) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO JUMP ANY JUMPS- THEY ARE NOT IN SAFE CONDITION YET FOR JUMPING, NOR DO WE WANT TO DO ANY DAMAGE.

3) DO NOT RIDE ON ANY VERGES- THE ESTATE IS PARTICULAR ABOUT THIS AND WE WANT TO BE WELCOME BACK.

 

Anyone found disobeying the above will be eliminated and may jeopardise future attendance at events.

 

4) If a horse before you has dunged on tarmac road, please do not ride over the top of it if at all possible as we will be clearing dung from tarmac roads and its much easier if its not trodden in!

L=Left; R=Right; SO= Straight On; CP= Check Point

 

PLEASE REMEMBER NOT TO RIDE ON VERGES OR
BE TEMPTED TO JUMP X-COUNTRY JUMPS

 

Start from Pony Club Field and turn L along road through gateway at side of cattle grid, and turn L, then take 2nd track on L, through small gateway at side of another cattle grid, stay on this track, towards end of the track keep to the right- away from the house, and turn R at junction with estate road- follow road passing Golf Course (watch out for and be courteous to any golfers) & follow road round to L

Continue on estate road through woods, passing a house and track on right, continue to CP1. Turn R.  Do NOT cut corner over grass at CP1, stay on the road and double back on yourself.

At x roads turn L – beware of wooden drainage channels on this section- stepover carefully or go round the edge- at end of this track turn R and follow up towards Dunecht House- turn L at the top of this track, through gateway and keep house on your right, through narrow gate on the right at the other end and continue SO on estate road, passing Golf course again.  Go SO at x roads and take 2nd small track on R.  Follow up to meet estate road- cross over and go uphill on track , turning left through gate CP2

Follow moorland track back downhill past X Country jumps and SO at bottom at A (2nd time round you turn R), thru gate, and turn R onto estate track. Follow to x roads, continue SO with house on your right, continue to B, turn R follow track through gate & over bridge onto track running alongside burn.  Continue to the end at C where the gate leads out onto road, go through gate onto road.  Turn L and follow road round to North Lodges, turn L and follow estate road, pass buildings on right hand side and turn L down woodland track just before Pony Club House (if you get to Cattle Grid and PC house you have gone too far)

At fork in the track keep right and continue on to gate- go around edge of gate & carry SO passing B- through another gate & over bridge onto track running alongside burn.  Continue to the end where the gate leads out onto road (C) DO NOT go through this gate this time- instead turn R up narrow track (beware of low tree) and follow until estate road, turn L onto the road and after a short distance look out for heathery track on right- turn R onto this track and follow up over heather hill towards the x country course and D.

1st time at D turn R down to CP 2 and turn R going through gate again and follow moorland track downhill.  This time at A turn R and follow rough track and markers through felled area and heather.  Emerge onto estate road and turn R. Follow round, passing narrow track on left you came up last time and continue on estate road until you reach track on R taking you up and over Heather Hill again.  This time at D continue straight ahead and follow downhill.   On reaching estate road turn L, then ignore first turn on left & at fork in the track take left grassy track. PLEASE TAKE CARE PASSING PONIES IN FIELD- WALK IF NECESSARY- MUCH AS IT IS A LOVELY TRACK IF THE PONIES ARE GETTING UPSET PLEASE TAKE CARE!

On reaching Estate road (CP3) turn L & follow to junction, turn R and R again when you reach next T junction onto (C Class Road)

Follow this road round to the right ignoring track on left and then on 2nd corner turn R onto grassy track- (Take care pheasants and pheasant feeders can be hiding in the undergrowth) follow track to emerge again at CP3- REPEAT THIS LOOP so turn R, and follow as before.  On returning to CP3 again turn L. Turn R at cross roads (After grain dryer) and follow Estate Road back up to venue field and Finish.  WELL DONE
