Description |
Varied selection of forestry tracks with some
pleasant climbs and good views if weather allows, easy parking with toilets
nearby.
The routes in 2008 are different, mostly in South Drumtochty Forest with small amount of quiet road work. No gates
and good tracks with some excellent views, a good fittening ride with some
lovely canter tracks.

Directions |
From North:
From A90 southbound, take the B966 signposted to
Auchenblae. Turn right after 0.7miles. Follow the road for approx 1.2miles
(passing 1st crossroads) and turn right at the 2nd
crossroads. Follow road into the village and continue uphill. At the top of
the hill turn sharp left (signposted for Drumtochty Glen 1.5 miles).
Follow the road for approx 1.5 miles. Venue is in field on right just
after the church.
From South:
From A90 northbound, take B966 signposted Auchenblae.
Directions as above.
From Fettercairn:
Leave Fettercairn on B974 heading towards the Cairn
O’Mount. After 3.7 miles turn right at Clatterin Brig, signposted
Drumtochty Glen. Follow narrow road for 3.1 miles & venue is on left
just before the church.
From Banchory:
Leave Banchory on B974 Cairn O’Mount Road. Turn left
at Clatterin Brig at bottom of Cairn O’Mount – then follow directions as
above. |

From start, cross the field and TURN RIGHT on to tarmac road.
NARROW ROAD – Please be aware of traffic.
Turn right into forest car park, TURN LEFT at
A and
follow track SHORT WALK SECTION (pedestrians use this and
anyone trotting will be eliminated). BE CAREFUL OF TREE ROOTS AND
STUMPS at end of track – Follow for 1.1km and at T junction turn
RIGHT – Follow track for 1km ignore track to left follow route
downhill to road. TURN RIGHT onto road and then LEFT at
B onto grass track leading up to
metal gate. Follow track round LEFT side of gate & follow track
up into forestry |

Follow soft
winding track for 3km up through the forestry to junction with main
forest track at CP2 |

RIGHT at CP2 onto main forest
track (2-way traffic) and after 300m TAKE RIGHT FORK at junction
uphill to C. Continue Straight on
for approx 1.6km then turn SHARP LEFT and downhill to meet HARD
forest track at D TURN
RIGHT. (Competitive riders turn left) |

Continue
along Main track, round two sharp LEFT bends for approx. 2km. At
E TURN LEFT off main track and
onto downhill grassy track. At next junction turn Sharp LEFT
then RIGHT and uphill.
Take next
LEFT onto soft grassy track and continue along and uphill to meet
hard forest track at F
Turn LEFT. (Competitive rider rejoin route) |

along to G. TURN RIGHT off
Main track and follow softer track uphill and over moor to summit of
hill and down the other side. (This 4km of track will not be marked).
Towards the end the track is slightly overgrown. On meeting HARD track
turn RIGHT and down to C.

downhill and keep LEFT at Main track junction. Continue straight on to
CP2. Take
right fork down main forest track for 0.5km & TURN SHARP LEFT
onto small grassy track. (NB Competitive riders do not turn here)
Follow narrow track down to road, cross road & back into venue field &
to the finish

Follow road for 0.5km and TURN RIGHT into North Drumtochty Forest
Car Park – Straight on at A - Stay on tarmac road & continue uphill into
the forest for 650m (2 way traffic) to CP1
Turn LEFT round sharp bend on main track and continue uphill. At next
left bend TAKE RIGHT FORK
Keep to MAIN TRACK , ignoring tracks to the left and enjoy the views –
stony section of hard track but time allowance for walking this section.
At T junction TURN RIGHT and head downhill to
CP1

go RIGHT – stay on main track ignoring track to left. Take next
RIGHT Sharp turn (almost back on your self). Follow this track
and at T junction turn LEFT (Pleasure riders join from the

Continue
along Main track, round two sharp LEFT bends for approx. 2km. At
E Straight on and follow track
uphill for 3.4km ignoring track to right – follow this main track –
Straight on at F. (pleasure riders
rejoin route). Continue along to G.
TURN RIGHT off Main track and follow softer track uphill and over
moor to summit of hill and down the other side. (This 4.3km of track
will not be marked). Towards the end the track is slightly overgrown.
On meeting HARD track turn RIGHT and down to

track downhill and keep LEFT at main track junction. Straight on
to CP2. Take right fork passing outward route on left and follow
downhill under pylons – continue round righthand bend and straight on
down hill (ignore track to left – pleasure riders take this route) –
continue on main track to gate (ignoring turn off to the right). Turn
LEFT along tarred road (past venue gate) and re-enter field to
finish. |
